In the UAE, Dubai Municipality says animals may not be buried, and municipal disposal is mass cremation with no ashes returned. A calm plan for a fish's aftercare
- If a sitter finds your fish dead while you're away, have them take it out carefully, wrap it in a paper towel and put it in the freezer in a labeled bag.
- Ask for a quick photo of the tank or pond and a note of anything unusual, such as a silent pump or cloudy water.
- Have them check the others and, if the water doesn't look right, turn any automatic feeder off.
- Make no aftercare decisions from a distance. Once frozen, your fish can wait for your return.
- When you're back, test the water yourself, then choose between burial and cremation calmly.
- Thank your sitter. Finding a dead pet is upsetting for them too, even when it's someone else's fish.

How long does it take to get a fish's ashes back in the United Arab Emirates?
Many families receive private cremation ashes within one to two weeks. In rural areas, where small pets travel to a regional crematory on a set schedule, it can take a little longer. Ask for an expected return date when you book.
Is it legal to flush or release a fish in the United Arab Emirates?
Releasing live fish into the wild is restricted in many places because non-native fish can spread disease and harm native species. Flushing a dead fish isn't a good idea either, as not all wastewater is fully treated. Freeze the fish and choose a burial or cremation instead.
Who can take my remaining fish if I give up the pond in the United Arab Emirates?
Ask aquarium shops, pond societies, rehoming groups and keepers you know. Some shops take fish for store credit or simply for free. Releasing them into open water is restricted in many places, however suitable it looks, because pet fish bring diseases and unbalance native wildlife.
