Invasive fish released by owners are a real problem in many regions. For burial and scattering, the rules for Mexico are summarised below, and your city or council may add its own.

- Put it in the freezer inside a sealed bag with a clear label on it.
- Check the tank or pond before the day is out, testing the water and looking closely at each fish left.

For people, about a majority of deaths in Mexico end in cremation, and pet aftercare tends to follow local habits. For fish, the choice depends more on size than on custom: larger fish are often cremated, while small tank fish are commonly buried.
