Cibolo, Texas
Who will cremate a fish in Cibolo?
The long South Texas warm season can run from April through October, and a closed garage in Cibolo in August is no place for an animal's body even for an hour. Choose a cool indoor room, lay down a washable blanket, and aim to have collection arranged within the same day. Freezing nights are few, but when a winter storm does arrive, as in February 2021, roads can stay icy for days.
Cibolo is a fast-growing Guadalupe County city about 19 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio, next door to Schertz and a short drive from Randolph. Most residents live in subdivisions built within the last two decades, laid out around a small original town center along Main Street. Plenty of families here work on base or commute to San Antonio, so the vet who knows your animal may be across the county line; say which clinic when you ask for options.
If you live outside Cibolo itself, ask about mileage before booking any collection. For a fish, it usually makes more sense to drive it yourself, frozen and sealed inside a small cooler. You avoid a call-out fee, you choose the timing and you can ask your questions face to face. Many families combine the trip with something else they need to do in a larger town nearby.
With roughly 39,019 residents, Cibolo is the 95th-largest of the 325 Texas communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is San Antonio, about 19 miles (30 km) away, which is where some providers serving Cibolo are based.
Cibolo sits within easy reach of Schertz (2 miles), Universal City (4 miles) and Converse (6 miles). A provider based in any of them will usually collect from Cibolo; ask what the mileage adds to the bill.

Cremation, custom and the family fish in Texas
In Texas, with a human cremation rate around 55.7%[1], habits often split by generation. Grandparents may remember burying a goldfish in a matchbox at the bottom of the garden; younger keepers who rent or move often lean toward cremation or a planter. Both instincts are sound. If the family can't agree, the fish's size makes a fair tiebreaker: the bigger and older the fish, the more a cremation tends to make sense.
The Texas percentage above is from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) and refers to human funerals. Treat it as context for Cibolo, not as a count of pets.
Season by season: fish losses in Cibolo
If you keep pond fish, the seasons in Cibolo will shape both their risks and your goodbye. Hot spells can cause oxygen crashes; cold snaps can freeze the surface; storms can knock out a pump. Whatever caused a loss, check the water and the equipment first, then turn to aftercare once the remaining fish are safe.

Fish cremation quotes in Cibolo: what's normal
Most families receive private cremation ashes back in about 5-10 days[5], and small pets are often among the quicker ones. For a fish in Cibolo, the price usually follows the provider's minimum for the smallest pets, as in the table below. Water cremation, where it's offered, falls in similar bands. If your fish is very small, ask whether a symbolic return costs the same as a private cremation.

Before you bury, scatter or rehome in Texas
Most of the decisions after a fish dies are yours to make. The exceptions are burial, scattering and anything that involves open water. Flushing is a poor idea everywhere: fish can carry parasites and bacteria, and not every drain leads to full treatment, especially during heavy rain. Here's what applies in Texas for burial and scattering.
To find your county or city office in Texas, start with the official Texas local government directory.
The rules that apply across Texas (home burial, scattering and who oversees pet cremation) are summarized on our Texas page. Cibolo may add its own conditions, so check with the city or county before digging.
What to do when your fish dies in Cibolo
- Make sure. Watch the gills and fins for a full minute. A fish lying still on the bottom can be chilled, stunned or very weak rather than gone.
- Lift your fish out with a net once you're certain; left in the tank, it will start to spoil the water for the rest.
- Seal it in a bag or tub, press the air out and freeze it. Chill it in the fridge instead if you want a vet to find out why it died.
- Test the water the same day for ammonia, nitrite, pH and temperature, and watch the remaining fish closely.
- Decide by size. A koi or large goldfish suits private cremation; a small tank fish often suits a burial, a planter or communal cremation.
- Call a provider and ask what they'd return for your fish's length and weight, and get the total in writing.
Remembering your fish in Cibolo
The town takes its name from Cibolo Creek, and the city's parks and trails give residents room outdoors close to home. Newer lots tend to be compact, and HOA rules often limit what can go in the ground, cremation with the ashes kept inside is the usual path. If you'd like to scatter a portion in a public park, the city's parks office can tell you what's allowed.

Questions people ask
Which nearby towns can I compare with Cibolo?
The closest communities we cover are Schertz (about 2 miles), Universal City (about 4 miles) and Converse (about 6 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Cibolo too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Will I have to travel to San Antonio to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in San Antonio (roughly 19 miles from Cibolo) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
How do Texas attitudes to cremation compare?
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) puts the Texas human cremation rate at about 55.7%[1]. We show it on the Cibolo page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Can I bury a fish on a relative's land near Cibolo?
Usually yes, with the owner's permission. Stay clear of wells, streams, field drains and ponds that livestock drink from, above all if an infection killed the fish. A cotton cloth or newspaper makes a better wrapping than plastic. A marker or a plant makes the spot easy to find again, which matters if the land might one day be sold.
Can my vet in Cibolo arrange a fish's cremation?
Often yes. Many small-town vets send small animals to a regional crematory and can include a fish with their regular collection. Ask whether their crematory accepts fish, whether you'll get ashes back for your fish's size and what the total cost will be.
How do I find someone who will cremate a fish near Cibolo?
Start with your vet, who will know which crematory handles their small animals. Then call that crematory directly and ask whether it accepts fish. A local fish store or koi club may know who other keepers use. You can also send us your location and we'll email options that serve Cibolo.
